General Motors Day featured a full round of activites including presentations,
campus tours and focus groups. One of the most colorful events was the
donation and dedication of GM's highly acclained EV1 Electric automobile.
Also on display at the dedication of the EV1 Electric, which faculty and
students will use in educational and research projects, was the Cadillac
Escalade EXT. The EV1 Electric, as an equipment donation, is valued at
$50K; the GM gift of associated proprietary technology sharing is also
valued at $50K. In addition to these gifts, GM presented the University
with $50,000 to be designated for scholarships and Unigraphics software
and computers.
GM representatives visited classrooms in Business, Communications and Engineering,
and listened to presentations by Howard Engineering and Business students
in the GM Corporate Adopt-a-Team program.
Howard University President H. Patrick Swygert spoke at the inaugural breakfast
along with Dr. Jerome Gibbs, GM's Director- Executive Quality, who also
serves on the College's Board of Visitors. Deans James H. Johnson, Jr.,
Barron H. Harvey (Business) and Jannette Dates (Communications) also made
presentations.
General Motors is a highly valued partner in Howard's quest for excellence,
and the creation of the General Motors Corporation/Howard University Partnership
is an outgrowth of this succesful association.
