A Howard University Graduate Assistantship carries full remission of tuition and provides a stipend in return for working in the Department of Systems and Computer Science laboratory. The Graduate Assistant will work under the direction of the laboratory coordinator of the Department of Systems and Computer Science. Funding in the summer is not ordinarily available for this Assistantship. A Howard University Graduate Research Assistantship is usually supported by industry or a government agency by means of a research grant obtained by a faculty member in the Department of Systems and Computer Science (the "Principal Investigator"). Such an assistantship usually carries full remission of tuition and funding in the form of a stipend. The stipend is given in return for working under the direction of the Principal Investigator. Depending on the nature of the research grant, additional funding may be available in the summer months. A Howard University Tuition Scholarship provides remission of tuition, but no stipend. No duties are required. Only a very limited number of Tuition Scholarships are generally available at any one time. A limited number of scholarships and grants are available from funds within the school and are awarded on the basis of demonstrated scholarship and need. Awards are made for one year and are renewable for the second year on the basis of satisfactory performance and availability of funds. Students must apply each year for aid by completing a School of Engineering and Computer Science Request for Financial Aid and an FAFSA need analysis. Both forms are available in the Office of Student Services. |
