Friday's CONCERT from Makeda -- After a 30-minute excursion that took us from one side of the island to the other, missing turns and asking two natives for directions, Dana and I finally found the the Entertainment Center, where the concert was being held. We quickly went backstage to get a better view because we couldn't pry between the clusters of people jammed up against the stage. Backstage was a star-studded event. Tom Joyner of THE TOM JOYNER MORNING SHOW was shuffling around doing dance moves like he belonged on the stage with the Temptations. I had to have a picture, so Dana took a picture of us, and he flashed his trademark smile. I also took a picture with him and Dana, and there was that ear-to-ear grin again! Read the interview with Tom Joyner. As we were going to the VIP tent, we ran into legendary Isaac Hayes. After I finished gawking at him, I asked him if he had been on the net. Guess what Isaac Said...
The VIP room was half-empty. My guess is that all of the stars were in the main crowd enjoying the show. We did see Heavyweight Champion of the World Evander Holyfield. He was the one in the T-shirt that said "Holyfield," getting into a humongous white stretch limo before I could get a picture with him. Dana and I decided to get backstage (behind the scenery) for a better view. Sinbad's entourage had already beaten us to it. There were about 25 friends and family members, including the man himself, back there grooving to the show on a video monitor. When Ron Isley began to sing "Shout," Sinbad jumped around madly, clapping his hands like an old lady in church. Then the concert was over. It was short and sweet, enough to make me want to come back tomorrow night for more. Scoop From Dana Wow! I'm at the concert, armed with a backstage pass! This is a soul music lover's dream, my dream. At home they call people like me "old heads" because I'm a young person who loves old music. Seeing that I'm so young, I've never seen many of my favorite artists perform--until today. Tonight I get to see the Temptations, the Barkays and the Isley Brothers.
