Research Area 1A: Software Technology Improvement for Software Fault-Tolerance

1. To interact with industry, academe, and government to determine realistic approaches to software reliability and to determine software methodologies appropriate to different application domains
2. To develop models for software reliablity
3. To use these models to create a "software reliability modeling package," which includes quality of prediction and goodness of fit estimates

Research Area 1B: Interoperability Issues for Software Fault-Tolerance

1. To develop models for fault estimation, propagation and deduction appropriate for interoperable software systems
2. To develop a set of procedures and tools to analyze different types of run-time faults
3. To determine a set of test cases, each case exhibiting a different type of fault, in order to determine efficiency of different software fault-tolerance techniques
4. To develop a set of guidelines and coding standards specific to distributed or concurrent software for reduction of untestable run-time faults
