An experimental vaccine that halted the progress
of a strain of Multiple Sclerosis in a
number of patients,
left many hoping that some patients could be
saved from the devastating effects of
the disease.
Dr. Arthur Vandenbark of Veterans
Medical Center and Oregon Health Sciences
University in Portland, Ore., conducted the
research.
"The vaccine was effective in
stimulating a regulatory response in a portion
of the patients, and those patients that did
have a response to the vaccine did not
progress clinically over the year that we
followed them."
