Summary of Recent Research
Recent research has been in the evolving of an effective and practical methodology of instructing technical courses in engineering in the prevailing environment unique to his institution. The formidable task is to face the challenge of upholding the standard of a course at a level comparable to those at the mainstream institutions, and enabling at the same time a large percentage of the students with inadequate preparations in the pre-requisites to be successful in completing the course. The conventional way of instructor lecturing, assigning homework, maintaining office hours and maybe conducting a weekly recitation session of one hour has proven to be woefully inadequate here. In experimenting with the proposed total-quality approach to instruction in a number of courses over the semesters, results have been quite encouraging. Other areas of technical interest are theoretical thermodynamics and theoretical fluid mechanics.
