Gracelessly
A boy I loved, I lost control
Slipped fingertips, slammed hand in door
I saw him now regret a smile
Relinquished suddenly
A master lock I thought my heart
His hand he thought the key
Strung from a wand devout in clay
Molded to embrace his space that way
I fell, I brushed against the rough edged coast of lullabies
All lies are made so syrupy sweet
Finessed by time and trying
And I so stark in mud and woe
My simple self denying
I thought he moved with graceful wings
I thought he told the whole of things
I thought I held the joy he brings
But I had lost control
I found in me the emptiness
Which he longed to full fill
He could not see the full of me
For looking into wells
This boy would peer down steep all day,
Drop pennies and make wishes
I’d smile and grab with copper glee
The foreign words he’d throw at me
I shook and charmed the serpent’s lair
And brushed its glossy hair
A boy I loved, I lost control
My spirit sealed, I broke my soul
It’s only healing now through time and trying
The times when lies spit facelessly
Encompassed me, so shamelessly
Blesséd are we who dance with thieves
