Purpose of Game With Relation to Course:

The purpose of this game is to increase participation in the course and to stimulate students to do well in all their work.

The Game:

This game is loosely based on the CBS Survivor television program. The class is divided into five teams as given via email!

(Note that the teams were decided by random selection via coin and die tossing!)

The game is played in phases.

Phase I:

For a number of weeks, the teams will compete for immunity.A team with immunity stays as is until the next competition. The four teams without immunity will vote off one of its members. If a team has only two members, and this team does not win immunity, one of the members will be given immunity. This will continue until one team has only one member. At that time, the Survivor game will enter Phase II.

Phase II:

The teams will all be combined into one large group, but now the game is played as individuals. Each person vies for immunity and that person cannot be removed from the game. The group votes to remove one person. When there are only two people left, the game enters Phase III.

Phase III:

Each person in the class votes for that person they want to win the game.

Winner receives an automatic A on the final exam. The first runner-up receives an automatic 50 points on the final exam. The second runner-up receives 25 points on the final exam, and the third runner-up receives 10 points on the final exam. The other players receive nothing!
