Assignment #6
Follow all the guidelines for homework submissions given previously.
Goal of Assignment #6: To familiarize the student with ICMP by using ping and traceback.
Due Date: March 31, 2003, Monday.
Submit:
- A hard copy of results.
- An explanation of each of the terms in the output, i.e., (Name of
System, RTT, etc.)
- A description of ping - what does it do?
- A description of traceroute - what does it do?
For Assignment #6, use ping with five IP addresses and traceback with five IP addresses.
(There doesn't have to be ten addresses total - the sets for the ping and traceback can be the same.)
Remember to terminate ping if it keeps running by a control C; do not terminate traceback - it will terminate after 30 hops.
If you are using scs.howard.edu use:
- /usr/sbin/ping ipaddress
- /usr/contrib/bin/traceroute ipaddress
If using a different system and don't know where ping or traceback is, use:
- whereis ping
- whereis traceroute
to find the correct directories.
This assignment is due Monday March 31, 2003.
