Animated Story (Lee)

Would you like to be in Steven Job's "Toy Story" team or George Lucas' "Star Wars" or "Return of the Jedi" animated team?! Well this story is just as, if not more interesting then these scripts.

Objectives: To create a three minute animation based on the story of Journey to the West. This project will focus on the birth of the Monkey King.

Background: This 100 chapter story is a well known Chinese mythological novel based on folk tales of the 16th century. The fantasy relates to the adventures of a Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) priest, his three disciples, and their travel westward in search of the Buddist Sutra. Some of the episodes include The Birth of the Monkey King, Havoc in Heaven, Adventures in Hell, and Palace Under The Sea, each deeply captures humanity and at the same time express extraordinary creativity and imagination. The main character in this project is the Monkey King. Monkey is a fearless and loyal character capable of performing supernatural feats, who eventually becomes a Saint and is worshipped by many people.

Techniques: There will be some technically challenging animation sequences such as: explosions, somersaults, waves, currents under the sea, wars, etc. which require in-depth knowledge of the usage of the SGI machine and its software.

Plans:

Members of the team will meet weekly to discuss protocols.
Individuals are responible for certain segments of the creations, whether its is graphics, animated figures, music, text, etc.
Finish copy will be entered in SIGRAPH 97's animation contest.
Finish copy will be approached to commercial network for production sponsorship.
